With the reported occurrence of autism approaching 2% or 1 child in every 50 born in Ontario today, the already strained financial support of the government is very limited. The needs of these children for special attention and training puts severe stress on the families, both financially and emotionally, often resulting in marriage break-ups.
As the population of these individuals has been increasing many parents are confronting the question “What will happen to my child when I can no longer care for him or her?” With a waiting list for long term care already in the thousands, where do these families turn?
The need for affordable answers to these situations caused by this silent epidemic has already become critical.
With the purchase of this 200 acre farm with existing buildings, a 6 acre pond and all of the natural resources required, we are able to establish a self-sustaining home for the first Lindsey Village.
The vision of Lindsey Villages is to provide education, training and support to children parents and caregivers under the supervision and guidance of trained professionals, to maximize the potential of Autistic individuals. Many will go on to live healthy lives as productive members of society. Others may contribute by working at the Village as part of the team that will provide for those not capable of independent living. Providing a safe environment where they will be treated with understanding, dignity and respect.
